...Or so the press would have you believe. I intentionally (and perhaps controversially) avoided the hype and didn't watch the ceremony or any of the TV coverage at all and just saw pictures of the dress and whatnot afterwards. However Fanni Williams at Fubumedia took some amazing photos from on The Mall, so check out her blog for a unique take on the day itself.
Despite my bah humbug approach to the day itself, I was completely up for a street party. The unique idea of a street in London coming together to celebrate a national occasion was irresistible, so me and my camera, adorned with a fancy hat, headed over to a street party in Bow, East London. It actually turned out to be a very middle class street party, for the middle of East London, and a long table had been set up full of sandwiches, cakes, salads and all manner of things made by the residents. It didn't take long for the party to get into full swing, and before sundown the whole street was dancing to cheesy wedding tunes. All I can say is roll on 2012 and the diamond Jubilee! I hope that whatever you were doing on our BOGOF bank holiday you had fun, we certainly did.
